My digital photographs incorporate light manipulation and color distortion to create a realm in which reality and fantasy collide. I use a zoom lens to capture everyday street scenes at night using long exposures. A Night Owl’s Perspective includes 3 categories of compositions: abstraction, metropolitan areas, and natural environments. Throughout the night, I cruise through town in my Hyundai Tucson and look for spots that provide a ground level perspective and a bird’s eye view. The locations include Blacksburg, One Loudoun and Cascades Overlook in Northern Virginia, and Honolulu. I was drawn to photograph scenes with a vast assortment of lights for their overwhelming and immersive quality. My process uses a slow shutter speed followed by the intentional movement of my zoom lens. I draw upon the style of Russian street photographer Alexey Titanrenko, who is known for his long exposure photos of busy street scenes. In my street photography, I capture commonplace environments with mysterious light shows. In my photographs, I strike a balance between familiar and mysterious elements. Each image is an unfolding story, a visual dialogue that encourages viewers to explore and connect with the narrative.
